Going outdoors to hike or jog should be enjoyed without fear or worry of the unknown.

Unfortunately, dangerous animal encounters, loose aggressive pets, environmental hazards, and other safety threats are becoming increasingly common. Too often, the warnings come after someone has already been injured or even killed.

I created Vigil to change that. I know that by connecting communities through real-time awareness, accurate and trusted reporting, as well as audible warnings that warn of nearby wildlife or loose dogs, we can look out for the wellbeing of people and animals alike.

Vigil was born from a simple but powerful belief: Tragedies can be prevented when people have the right information at the right time.

For years, I've watched stories of people being injured or worse killed after unexpected encounters with dangerous animals and hazards they never saw coming. Hikers, joggers, families, pet owners, and outdoor enthusiasts often found themselves in dangerous situations simply because no warning existed.

I kept asking myself the same question:

"What if they had known?"

What if there had been a way to alert others before they stepped into harm's way?

That question became Vigil.

Our mission is to create a community-driven platform that empowers people to share real-time information about wildlife sightings, dangerous animals, environmental hazards, and public safety concerns. By connecting people through awareness, we can help prevent accidents, reduce injuries, and protect lives as well as the wildlife. 

Most importantly, we believe safety should never be reserved for those who can afford it.

That's why our commitment is simple:

We will never place core safety features behind a paywall. 

Vigil is free to the general public.

But this mission is bigger than any one person, organization, or app.
